Dr. Zahra Punjani | DMD, IAOMT
Holistic Dentist in Atlanta, GA
I’m an IAOMT SMART-certified dentist providing care to patients in the Metro Atlanta Area. Not only do I provide holistic and biologic dental services to patients in a mercury-safe practice, I also provide comprehensive dental care for children and adults in rehabilitation, endodontics, and Invisalign.
Patient care comes first. What I’ve learned in my years of practice is that by creating a comfortable and safe space for my patients to discuss their dental and overall health concerns, we can together create treatment plans that are individually tailored and exceed your goals.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time outdoors hiking, cycling and going for a run on the Beltline. I also love playing Mario Kart and re-learning ABCs and 123’s with my five beautiful nieces and nephews, all between five months to five years old.
To achieve a holistic lifestyle, every day I learn and attempt a new way to improve overall health, from cooking a new nutritious recipe with produce that’s currently in season, to incorporating traditional medicine techniques such as Ayurvedic medicine into my lifestyle.
What is Holistic Dentistry?
Holistic dentistry, also known as biologic dentistry, is an approach to providing quality dental care in order to enrich a person’s overall health and maintain wellbeing. Some main aspects are:
Metal and mercury free environments and materials
Using materials designed to meet individualized aspects of your body (biocompatibility) in order to ensure optimal health and prevent rejection
Removal of amalgam that may contain mercury in order to prevent or treat toxicity
Use of ozone and other techniques to naturally maintain clean environments while doing dental work
Holistic dentistry does not just stop at the mouth; we strive to examine your overall health and establish the connection between healthy oral hygiene and overall health. Holistic dentistry is based on the strong partnership between the patient and dentist in order to establish good communication and respect for individual preferences. This leads to an educational, accountable and supportive experience and hopes to achieve better overall health.
Holistic Dentistry and Whole Body Wellness
Great oral hygiene leads to even better overall health. With every interaction, my goal is to create an inspiring experience and invigorate patients to take charge of their health and wellbeing
I have always been passionate about the relationship between body, mind and spirit. Growing up, my family instilled in me the value of food is medicine. For generations, my family has practiced an ancient form of medicine called Ayurveda, a philosophy that health and wellness are achieved by establishing balance between the body and mind. This is achieved by preparing and eating foods for particular ailments and imbalances. I became interested in Ayurvedic medicine after experiencing a medical ailment that did not respond to conventional medical treatment.
My passion for understanding health and wellness took me around the world to see how people in different communities all strive to achieve these goals. Many of their practices are an ingrained part of cultural expression and lifestyle. The common truth shared among all cultures is that there is an expression for natural medicine, healing through movement, mindfulness practices, and energy balancing techniques at every corner. Over thousands of years, there is a great deal to be learned, expressed and experienced in all forms of traditional medicine.
I have always practiced a sense of holistic living, leading to a natural progression to practice a holistic form of dentistry. Through my study and practice of holistic dentistry, I have appreciated that the body is connected in ways we are still continuously learning about and exploring. Holistic dentistry in a sense is just one way to express my passion and hopefully to inspire my patients to embark on their own journey to health and wellness.
